Peter Welch has worked on and off in gardens for 35 years. He began as a way of earning money as young boy and progressed on to weekend and holiday work whilst at Art School.

He had his first taste of large-scale landscape work with Jaquest Landscapes of Wimbledon.

He became an Under Gardener in 1982 where he was fortunate to work with men who held a direct lineage back to the golden age of gardening.

Peter secured a Head gardenership at the age of 28 on a 25 acre estate in Cornwall known as Maidenwell. His employer was Robin Hanbury-Tenison, author and explorer and president of Survival International.

Robin was, and is, a passionate gardener but was happy to leave the maintenance and development of his grounds to Peter and his team. Except on some famous occasions with chain saws a- flail!

Regrettably the estate had to be sold and Peter moved on to establish his own Garden Design business known as Parterre.

Two years later, Peter trained to be a Primary School teacher but was often requested to produce designs for gardens large and small and offer horticultural advice.

He has now happy to offer the same service again but only in terms of design and consultation. He now leaves the very hard work to others!

Peter was a RHS Bronze Medalist at the Hampton Court Flower Show in 2003
